Each of us need to become Extremly Selfish.

Unless each person becomes Selfish, There cannot be peace and happiness on this planet.

Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa & Buddha were few of the most selfish beings ever.

They each had understood the Principle of universe, i.e. The universe is interconnected. We all are part of the same God (or Supreme Consciousness).

Just like a hand does its best to feed the mouth, knowing fully well that eventually he will himself get the energy via the blood stream in due course. Or The Hand when trying to nurse an injured leg, is being selfish, knowing well that without the feet the body will not be able to walk in order to get food in future.

We all need to help the Bodily seperated fellow humans. Realize that eventually we will all become happy, once evey one else around us becomes Happy. It cannot happen that our fellow beings are in distress and we are at peace.

The great beings in fact were most selfish when they tried to help others. Because they never thought they are helping anyone other than themselves, as they saw everyone as part of same supreme being.

Go ahead Be Selfish. Help others as you help yourself. We all share a common destiny.

The Tao of Operating Principle of Opposites

After many coincidences, experiments and experiences i dare to write this article.

There seems to be an operating principles of the Pair of Opposites, which is also hidden in ancient wisdom of scriptures.

Some of the manifested and tested principles are shared here. Do share your experiences.

1.Student <=> Teacher.

  • To be a good learner, become a teacher. I.e. if you want an average student to secure more marks, assign him a below average student as his student. The average student while explaining the lessons to the below average student will automatically improve himself.
  • To be come a Good Teacher, become a good student. A teacher, needs to learn from the students, peers and through continuing education for more innovative ideas

2. To weaken something, strengthen it. (borrowed from Lau Tzu).

3. If you keep going to the East, you will end up in the West.

4. Helping others, may cause them greater harm. Do not help any one, allow them to be helped by themselves. Remain a catalyst. Do not in the long run keep providing a fish to a person, gradually teach him to fish for himself. Only when he has no need for any ones help, will he be helped. This is quite a subtle issue at times. The person being helped should not become aware that he has been helped, he should feel that he has done it himself. Only then will he become self confident for future endeavours.

5. To become immortal (life forever), you need to stop dying. To stop dying, you need to stop taking birth. So to become immortal, stop taking birth. I.e. reach Nirvana stage (become one with God, and stop getting manifested). To Be (become) immortal, you have to stop to be (stop being i.e. manifested/taking birth).

We cannot help others

Meeting people in the social field, i have come to conclude that “We cannot help others”. There are two meanings of this

1.Each person has to help himself. Most projects in which there was grant or direct benefits given to needy have failed. Those have succeeded where people cooperate, organize themselves, and become self dependent (E.g. Amul, Ralegan Siddhi, Grameen, Rural Tourism etc). In nutshell in order to have a viable and sustainable development, people need to put in efforts and own the end results than depending on others to keep supporting them. A Catalyst may be needed, but temporarily, eventually the people must become self dependent.

2. So long as there is a feeling of separateness, i.e. each soul thinking that he is different (superior) from other,The feeling in each helping action will be of “I have done something for someone else”. In this case the quality of action is doubtful.

Feel the entire universe as a single entity, and each one of us like different parts of the same human body. The hand has no ego in doing work to be able to feed the Stomach, indirectly it gets fed too when the stomach is fed. The hands never feel that they are working for someone else, or doing a favour to rest of the body. Only when the Stomach, Brain and other parts of body get food energy, will the hand get energy.

Same way, Only when all the other beings are happy can we become happy.

Thus doing any good work for others, think you are doing it for yourself. When others will be come happy, you will eventually become happy and peaceful.

Remove the mindset that you are helping someone else, you are helping yourself (As you a are part of the unified universe).

From Technology to Tourism

The Story so far….Transition from Technology to Tourism….

All the limits are of the Mind…There are infact no limits……Author Unknown…

One year, has passed since the move from Technology to Social Sector. Currently am working with an organization called Grassroutes. These good people (Inir, John and Darren) are experimenting to improve the Tribal Livelihoods through Rural Tourism. One good aspect in this organization is that we consciously avoid using the terms as “Reducing/Eliminating Poverty”. The key mindset is to enable the trials to improve their livelihoods by their own efforts. We do not believe in Donating money to any one. The poor want enabling environment, and then they blossom of their own efforts.

This blog is for my friends who want to know how different it is changing the field from IT to Social sector.

For me personally, there has not been much of a change in the kind of work i have been doing..This seems bit contradictory…let me explain.

1. I am still involved with Technology. We still use Excel for Business Plans, What If Scenarios. PPT’s for Village Communities, Investors. Internet for Marketing (Facebook and Google Ads).

2. We still have processes. Checklists, Review meetings, Post project analysis.

3. We have pilots. We experiment with new tools/techniques and then evaluate the projects.

4. We have Goals. We carry “Sales Targets”.

5. I still have to use Laptop and Reply to Emails….

6. The concept of Customer and Sales remain same. “Our Organization has to create value for Guests”. Now “This” is one of the “most critical thing” i have learn’t here. No Matter what business you are in IT or Tourism or any other thing. If you don’t add significant Value for the Customer, you have no right to stay in the business.

7. Here too we have Stakeholders (Investors, Media, Village Committees and Guests). Need to constantly have review and feedback discussions, keep all stakeholders updated.

8. We have time bound projects. Each theme is a project by itself, and undergoes conception, brain storming, planning, checklists, execution and evaluation phase. Wow.. Even the words we use are same as we use in IT.

So to summarize, from the outside it seems that i have changed my field, but at the core, i am still continuing the same stuff i was doing in Wipro.

My Favourite Poems

Some of my Favourite Poems

Little Deeds of Kindness, Little Deeds of Love, Makes the earth a paradise, Like the Heaven above.

—-Julia A. Fletcher Carney
